Dear All of my Friends and Family,

Yeah, I know.  We're in a recession.  The job market is shaky.  Your 401K lost 93.2% of its worth.
But seriously.
Enough already.
Do you people know what you're missing by not coming to Japan?
Besides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stay with me in Japan???

Yeah, you're not only missing this...
(He's reproving you with his eyes!)

and this,
(I was 9 months pregnant...sue me.)

and these punks:
(who make cookies on demand...)

You're also missing the 100 Yen Store!!!

Where you can buy this...
("Life is not easy...but not too bad.")
and this...
(Training Chopsticks)
and this...
(Flower shaped "Vegetable cutters - small")
(Used for Bento boxes...and pottery.)
and these...
("Milk Tooth Box - Also as a trinket box!")
(Where you put your baby teeth, silly!)

for only 105 yen*!!!
(Honestly, you're losing money by not coming...)

So seriously.

Get your priorities in order people!
And get to Japan!!!

*Yes...technically it should be the 105 Yen store, but that doesn't have the same ring to it, now does it!?!?

That's My Boy!

All of my sons are NOT carbon copies of Doug (and each other) like some people believe.
THIS boy is mine!
At the Mother's Day Tea put on by Sammy's Kindergarten class,
May 14, 2010.
They sang two songs for us, presented us with flowers, and fed us cookies, bread
and Lemonade or Iced Tea.
I love my Sammy-boy!
(And his awesome teacher!)

Gabey's 3rd Birthday and an R2D2 Star Wars Cake

I mentioned that it was Gabriel's 3rd birthday the other day.

Well, we ended up celebrating a week late so Doug could go to the Cherry Blossom festival in Hirosaki.

But I don't think Gabey minded one bit...seeing as how he's three and not calendar savvy enough to know it was a week late.

He choose Star Wars for his theme, so I made him an R2D2 cake.  Since Doug told me I was NOT allowed to spend money on party favors, I printed some Star Wars coloring sheets, we played "destroy the meteor" and that was that.  A million kids came, a million balloons were popped, cake was eaten, presents were opened, messes were made, and a good time was had by all.  Which is all we ask around here.

Happy birthday cute boy!
We sure love you!!!

Oh, and in case you're wondering about the cake, here's how I made it:

How to Make an R2D2 Cake
Use two boxes of Funfetti cake mix.
Get help from a three-year-old birthday boy...

until he spills a gallon of oil.
Remove child from room.
Permanently.

Clean up oil spill.  Try not to think of environmental impact.

Divide cake batter between a Pyrex bowl and two round cake pans and bake.
Frost, decorate, and VOILA...

Easy as pie!!!

(Which isn't all that easy.)

Video Should Work Now!

Sorry...Somehow it got set to private! Try again!

Baby Gray

Doug made a slide show of Baby Gray and posted it on his blog, but we couldn't figure out how to share the link. So I made it again in iMovie and changed it up a bit.

For example, I included video footage of myself giving birth. Very brave of me I think. So if you don't want to see a side view of my nekkid swollen leg, don't watch. (Don't worry too much. It only shows my leg. Nothing else.)

About the music: The song I used is called "Baby Don't You Cry (The Pie Song)" by Quincy Coleman and Andrew Hollander. It comes from the movie "The Waitress" and Gabe insists that I sing it to him every single night. It's definitely a family favorite in the lullaby department. (And in case you've lived your entire life under a rock, the second song is "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong)

Enjoy!!!

Date Night

Last Friday night we went out and ate at a very yummy restaurant with a big group of friends.
See?  Big.  And this wasn't even everyone.  There were a few more couples in another room.

This is Doug holding Gray.  Our first date since his arrival.

This is my O.B.  and his cutie new baby just two weeks older than Gray.
He ordered uterus.
For realizes.

This is what uterus looks like cooking on a grill:

These are some of the friends who came over to look at, and sample, the uterus.

The purpose of this gathering, was, shockingly, not just to get together to eat uterus.

Nor was it to celebrate me putting on make-up and leaving the house.
(Although that is cause for celebration.)

All of these people got together to say good-bye to our friend Wes who's deploying for 4 or 5 months.  His second deployment since moving here.  One of many men (and women) who left last weekend.

It was a really fun night and the food was delicious.

(Doug's scallops, that he wanted to grill, came cooked in an omelet for some reason.)

But it was sad too.  Because deployments suck.  Bad.  (Pardon my language Mom and Aunt Jeannette.)

They suck for me and I'm not the one without a husband.  Just the friend of the wives-with-kids left behind.  (Only because I have to watch them suffer and it makes me teary and emotional.)

(Fortunately, Doug wont ever be deployed for which I am immensely grateful.)

Anyway, if you want to learn a little bit about what some women with deployed spouses go through, check out THIS article I found awhile ago.  It's worth the read!

Good luck Wes!
Come home safe!
We miss you already!!!

Items of Note/Notorious Items -- April and May edition.

  • It was Gabey's 3rd birthday yesterday, but shhh!  Don't tell him that!  We're not celebrating until next weekend.

  • Tomorrow Baby Gray will be 4 weeks old!  And incredibly, he's getting even CUTER every single day!  Unfortunately, he's not sleeping any better than he was as a newborn...  (Insert haggard looking frowny emoticon with under-eye bags here.)
  • Sadly, apple season is over (the Fuji apples here are the best I've ever tasted!) but strawberry season has begun!  Yum!  (This tiny carton was so sweet and delicious it was almost worth the $4 it cost!!!)
  • Doug went to the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival with Max and some friends yesterday and said it was almost as beautiful as last year.  (See the movie of last years trip in the sidebar.)  (I stayed home because Gray hates his car seat and it's a two hour drive.)
  • Although he was in trouble for being gone about 9 hours longer than planned (slight exaggeration) he barely redeemed himself by buying me a really pretty little pot.
  • The blossoms on base are just barely starting to come out and brave cold, windy, wet Misawa.  (Insert emoticon of me blowing a raspberry at the crappy, crappy weather we've been having here.)
  • I am officially, unequivocally, and utterly ready for warm weather.
And THAT is all I'm going to say about THAT!

Good night!!

A Birth Story: Part 2 (the end)

Warning:  This story gets graphic at precisely 3:48 a.m.  Read at your own risk.

I gave the birthing meditation my best shot, but it wasn't working.  It wasn't even helping.  In fact, it's quite possible it was making things worse.

Luckily, it wasn't long before the anesthesiologist showed up.

1 a.m.
She started explaining epidurals to me.  Calmly and slowly.
I listened.  Calmly.
Sorta.
Inside I was yelling, "JUST STICK ME IN THE SPINE ALREADY!  THIS IS MY FOURTH KID!!!"
She FINALLY finished her lengthy explanation.
"Any questions?"
Me:  "When can you start?!"
Her:  startled..."As soon as you sit up..."
Me:  "How long will it take?"
Her:  "not long..."
Me:  rolling over sitting up...

FINALLY!  Sweet relief.  You natural-birthers are NUTS!  NUTS I SAY!!!!

But wait...one problem...

Me:  "I can still feel my feet!"
Her:  "Well, we don't want you totally numb or you wont be able to push..."
Me: getting frantic "I DON'T WANT TO FEEL MY FEET!  I DON'T NEED TO FEEL MY FEET!  I CAN STILL PUSH WITHOUT FEET! .... FOURTH TIME...!!!!
Her:  chuckles disapprovingly and ignores me.

Curse her!!!

Now for the timeline courtesy of Doug's hastily scribbled notations:

2:45 a.m.
Water breaks.
With an extremely loud popping sound and an incredible gush, I might add!  I'm extremely grateful to not be in my bed at home.

2:58 a.m.
"First feeling of needing to push."
I don't remember this feeling.  Was I awake?  Asleep? In pain?  Who knows.  I have no recollection.

3:00 a.m.
9   100   +1
(I assume that means I was dilated to a 9 and 100% effaced.  Not sure about the +1)

3:24 a.m.
Complete.
Time to start pushing.

Only...wait...!
What's this?

Dr. Ryan is going to let Doug assist with the delivery!  Fabulous!  (for Doug)

But who's going to assist ME with the LABOR?  And who's going to take pictures?
Me, I guess!

I demand the camera and Doug rushes over to put on scrubs.

While the nurse helps me count through the contractions, I hold up the camera and aim it towards my lady bits snapping furiously.

(Many, MANY of these photo's have since been deleted.)

Yes, that's right.  I took pictures of myself giving birth.  How many women can say that!?!?  (How many want to?)

3:48 a.m.
BIRTH  As-yet-unnamed Baby makes his appearance.  He, like Max and Sam, has the cord wrapped around his neck -twice- and has aspirated meconium.  He doesn't cry at first and then only lets out one little squawk while being suctioned--then he's quiet again.  They place him on my chest and I get my first look at him.  He's very purple, limp, and swollen.  I'm glad when they take him away and get to work on him.  While I watch, they place him on a table and lift his arm repeatedly.  It falls back limply.  He's still not crying.  This does not make me happy.

A few minutes later the Pediatrician, Dr. H, comes in to examine him.  He's getting oxygen and when Dr. H listens to his lungs he detects labored breathing and crackling.  After I'm stitched up (he was 9'2"--I ripped.) Doug, Dr. Ryan and Dr. H take my purple baby to get a chest x-ray where they confirm aspirated meconium in his lungs.

Fortunately, after a blessing and about 48 pricks to the heel to draw blood (inducing excessive crying) his lungs are finally declared "clear".

And my beautiful, chubby-cheeked little boy is delivered to me--perfectly healthy.

Later that day, we name him Michael.

But that's another story.

The End

Thank you Dr. Ryan and Dr. H and all the nurses and assistants who helped my baby make it home safe and healthy!  And also Ryan, thanks for indulging my husband and letting him help with the delivery...  even if I did have to hold my own partially-numb legs up and take all the pictures!!!

A Birth Story: Part 1

For TLC.
I mean...
Design Mom.
I mean...
POSTERITY!

---
April 4, 2010.  Easter Sunday.
10 a.m.
I go to church.  (Conference is delayed for us.)
I'm having contractions.  Regular, but not hard at all.
I give Brother/Dr. Ryan a hard time for not inducing me.  Aren't Home Teachers/O.B.'s supposed to do what you ask?

5 p.m.
Our good friends have us over for dinner.  Tami assumed, rightly, that I wouldn't be in the mood to cook an Easter feast.  See how thrilled I am with life?

Despite my maternal discomfort, I enjoy a delicious dinner (You rock, Tami!!!) and decide I'll force the baby out by over-eating.  My full stomach will push him out!

9 p.m.
Home again.  Still having regular contractions.  I decide to call Labor and Delivery.

Me:  "I'm having contractions 4 minutes apart.  They're not hard at all, but I'm Strep B positive so they told me to come in early...should I come in...?" please please please!

Nurse:  I'm sorry, you said your name is what?  Emily?   ...Strep B...?

Dr. Ryan:  (yelling into the phone over the nurses shoulder.)  "STAY HOME!!!"
(then he comes on the line and I tell him what I just told the nurse.)
"You're probably in pre-labor.  You're fine to stay home until the contractions get harder."

10:00ish
I'm cleaning the house and doing laundry.
Ryan calls from LandD to check on me.   Tells me I'm welcome to come in and get an Ambien to help me sleep tonight.  I walk over to the hospital to get checked out.
Dr. B says I'm still at a 3 and not in real labor or I wouldn't have been walking to the hospital.  (Doesn't that just prove I'm tough?  I ask.  Laughs all around.)
Asks would I like him to strip my membranes.
YES
All of the sudden, I'm screaming (not very tough) and trying to claw my way up the hospital bed.
All of the sudden, I have a contraction that hurts.
A lot.
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME!?!?!?!?"

The nurse gives me an Ambien and makes Doug come pick me up.
I get home and fall instantly asleep

And here's where it gets kinda blurry.
12:30 ish
I wake up with a scream.
Real labor has started.  Time to go to the hospital.
I stumble out of bed and Doug calls Roxanna to come over to stay with the kids.
I stumble to the stairs.  I remember crashing a few times.  Keep in mind, I'm only two hours into a sleeping pill so I'm not entirely coherent.  Doug has to help me into the car so I don't fall over.

We go to the hospital and check in.  The contractions are hard.

The Anesthesiologist hasn't come in yet.  I decide to try my Podcast meditation.

It goes something like this...
A chick with an Australian accent tells me:
"Allow yo focus to go into the location of pain.
Breathe into the pain.  Allowin' the enegy of the pain to dispuse as you relax...
Breathin' into the pain...You awe calm, you awe focused..."
Me yelling: "NO I'M NOT"
"Imagine this pain has a colah.  What would it be?"
Me:  "RED!!!!"
"See the colah gettin lighta..."
Me:  "IT'S NOT GETTING ANY LIGHTER...!!!"
"You are in control.  Not the pain...."
Me:  "NO I'M NOT!!!"  (Rips iPod from ears...)

I tried.  I really did.

To be continued....

Love in the Early Morning

It's almost 4 a.m.
Baby Gray and I have been up since 1:30. Which is actually great since I was expecting him to wake up at 2330.

In between feeding and changing and feeding and changing and burping and changing him...and gazing into his soulful eyes... I've been reminded of a few things I'd forgotten over the last three years:

*Babies poop every time they eat. (And they eat a lot.)
But sometimes they poop more than that.
Sometimes they eat and then poop and then poop again five minutes later.
And then again two minutes later...
...and then a little more while you're changing that third one.

*Baby legs are strong! How are such tiny little legs so strong? I can barely control them to change his diaper!
*Baby heels instinctively retract directly into any applied diaper cream, (and/or baby poo...) then spring back out spreading said diaper cream to opposite leg, jammies, mom's hands and dad's leather chair. (Yeah, so maybe I shoulda put a changing pad down. Sue me.)

*Diaper cream is extremely hard to remove. So is mustard poo.
*Baby hands instinctively grab for their wettest, slimiest area once the diaper is removed...then proceed to spread said slime to stomach, face, mommy's arm, and dad's leather chair.
(Let up on the chair, will ya?)

*Baby boys in little baby boy nightie/sleep sacks are the cutest thing EVER!!!

*Happy, clean, full-bellied, heavenly-smelling babies staring intently up at your face...
...even at 4 am...
are worth it.
P.S. One day I'll put make-up on again before having my picture taken...but not today.

Baby Love

I'm home. (As of yesterday afternoon.)
My milk is in. (ouch.)
My belly button is still out. (ick.)

I'm tired. Exhausted. Overwhelmed that I now have four (FOUR) energetic boy-children...

I'm sad that my mom can't be here to see and hold and love and bathe my baby. (She always bathes the baby too early so the cord takes 3-17 weeks to fall off.)

BUT...

I'm thankful for hospitals and drugs (I love you Epidural! You failed me, Podcast Birthing Meditation!) and inspired modern medicine and Doctors and Nurses.

I'm especially thankful for friend-Doctors who can assist awesome husbands in giving Priesthood blessings. (But that's a story for another day.)

I'm thankful for all of our friends here who've;
brought gifts, treats, flowers, and meals,
taken Gabey for play-dates,
and called or come over to visit me.

I'm grateful for Skype so at least Baby Gray can be admired all over the world in real time.

Mostly, I'm just in love with my baby! Looking at him I think "Why did I ever want a girl? Girls are over-rated!!!" I wouldn't trade him for anything. Or any girl. I can't stop kissing his chubby cheeks and neck and lips and feeling his soft, silky hair and skin.

He's perfect!
And he's hungry.
A lot....
Especially at night.

So I should go now.

Goodnight!

Introducing....

It has been decided (mostly by Em) that the child shall be known as:

He's Here!

Baby ???? Warner was born on April 5, 2010 at 03:48. He is 9 pounds 2 oz and 21 inches! No name decided yet, we have never known the name on any of the kids for the first few hours.
Em is doing great. Baby got a little meconium in the lungs and had some labored breathing but is doing better. They are just keeping a closer eye on him in the nursery. He's already looking better. Oh, and I (Doug) got to catch him! More to come...

Painful Ponderances

I am 37 1/2 weeks pregnant. (Actually, tomorrow it'll be 38 even.)
This is boy number four. Pregnancy #4. Birth numero quatro.

A few days ago, I was feeling sorta brave. I had a few ideas about this bambino. See, I keep hearing that the more babies you have, the easier it's supposed to get. Easier and quicker.

I decided this time I'd try to stay home a little longer. Ya know--labor at home instead of at the hospital. Then just show up and pop the kid out. (The hospital is, afterall, literally just across the street from where I'm sitting at this very moment.) Two minutes walking. Three or four waddling. (Maybe six minutes if you factor in the damnable snow falling at the moment.)

So I've, periodically, been telling myself: Be less of a wuss. Labor at home a bit! Spend less time at the hospital begging for an epidural!!! (And oh, how I beg!)

Then I went to my appointment on Tuesday morning.
"The results are back for your GBS test. You're positive. So as soon as you're in labor, come right in. You need to be on antibiotics for at least four hours pre-delivery or the pediatricians get antsy."

Oh fine. There went that plan. Oh well! But this time, really--I'm going to be brave. (I told myself this despite having earlier met with the anesthesiologist and telling her "I'm not brave. Please start my epidural immediately. Today would be great!")

Then came yesterday morning. A contraction woke me up. A real contraction. A painful contraction.
(It would have had to be to get me to open my eyes at the un-godly hour of 6 a.m.)

I lay their moaning trying to shift my position enough to relieve some of the pain. It didn't work. This one really hurt. And it was a long one.

All of the sudden, my modicum of stoicism left me.
The veil was lifted and I remembered the actual, real pain of labor that you forget when you hold your newborn.
I was Eve--thrust out of the Garden into the cold, cruel world.
I was vulnerable.
Nothing about what was happening was bearable in any way, shape, or form.
This was REAL pain.
Vomit inducing pain.
And I didn't like it and I didn't want ANY more of it.

Finally, the contraction ended. Finally, I could fall back asleep. But later that morning I made sure to shave my legs in the shower. Just in case that one contraction was a sign of things to come. (I should be so lucky to be 2 1/2 weeks early...)

But the experience left me contemplative. Why am I such a wuss? Why am I so scared of pain? Why do I have such a low, low pain tolerance? Surely it's all in my mind. Surely my mind is powerful enough to take me to another place...to help me bare pain a little better. (Like Westley in the Pit of Despair.)
Afterall, other people do it all the time! Why can't I do it?!? I CAN do it, it's just that I don't WANT to do it!! (This is the same way I feel about running, btw.)

That's why last night Doug found me researching Hypno-birthing on the Internet. The claim is that it's pain free. That you can experience birth with only a small amount of discomfort.

And HEY, I can HANDLE a small amount of discomfort.
With the help of self-hypnosis, I can do ANYTHING!!!
I'm not inherently inept!
My body is young and capable and strong...ish!
...maybe.
(You can't prove that it's not!)

Unfortunately for me, it's a little too late.

I'm out of time.
I haven't prepared...haven't listened to any tapes or practiced any deep, meditative breathing.
Doug couldn't find any free applicable Podcasts on i-Tunes when he looked, and I'm to cheap and too skeptical to buy something from the Internet "sight-unseen".

And so, history will repeat itself.

My body will start laboring and my mind will start frantically waving a white flag and begging for DRUGS to be administered as soon as possible!

And until they are, (and even after) I'll suffer through the pain (even with epidurals, there is plenty of pain) and just try to make it through to the end, the beautiful little reward I'll hold in my arms. ("Twu Wuv", if you will.)

So it looks like, as Westley says, I'm headed not to the death, but "TO THE PAIN!"
Again.

So please wish me luck!

...And a fast acting epidural!!!

Post Script: Wanna know what I think is a tragedy? That after making one of the greatest films known to humankind, Cary Elwes (Westley) and Robin Wright-Penn (Buttercup) didn't go on to super-stardom. Or at the very least make another British romantic comedy together!

Ah, Boys...

Haircuts courtesy of Doug. The tightwad! He made my baby grow up overnight!!!

Sammy: "Mommy. Yo behwy button wooks wike da gwoss end of a banana."
Translation: Mommy, your belly button looks like the gross end of a banana.

(Yes, we have issues with "l's" and "r's" awound heo.)

(And yes, my belly button does look like the gross end of a banana. I'd show you but...it's gross.)

Sammy: "Today was da BEST DAY EVO!"
Mommy: "Why?"
Sammy: "Because I got a TWOH-FEE!"

(Basketball ended for the boys today and they both got trophies, t-shirts, and end-of-season parties. BEST DAY EVER!!!)

(It's really hard trying to spell kid-speak foe-neh-ti-cally!)

(Yes, I know it's not spelled that way.)

BTW, two Saturday's ago, Sammers said the same thing ("best day evo!") as we were leaving the AIRPLANE MUSEUM (just off-base) with our good friends whom we will just call "The Much-Cooler-Than-You-Fighter-Pilot Family". And that despite the fact that he got lost for about 20 minutes by wandering OUT of the museum to look for us.) Ah, boys...
Speaking of boys, how's the Fruit-of-my-Womb you ask?
Well, he's been in the slow cooker for exactly 37 weeks now. Just three to go! And since the last three Dub-brothers came a week early, I expect this one to do the same, dangit!!! (He's head down and slightly engaged. And yes, he's still able to kick me in the throat. Yes, you wanted to know that.)

And no, he still doesn't have a name.

And yes, he has grossly distorted my previously extremely perfect belly button. (And by "previously", I mean previous to four pregnancies.)

And yes, his current residency/squatterage is causing excessive Acid Reflux driving me to a strict diet of cold cereal and PB&J sandwiches. (And spinach/fruit smoothies. He's fine with those. But no pasta, pizza, curry, anything cooked, or anything with any flavor or seasoning of any kind.)

And yes, I'm tired and cranky and sick of the dang wet weather and ready for SPRING ALREADY!!!

Doug? Doug is sick of catering to my every whim, my Tums breath, my having to sit straight up in the middle of the night to burp and/or waddle to the bathroom, and my complete apathy towards all things house-keeping/meal planning/cooking related.
(Though I'm sure he wont admit it for fear of my excessively hormonally imbalanced wrath.)

While I'm at it, let's just make this a complete for-posterity journal entry about all the boys!

Maxwell: Recently had to spend lunch with the principle after tripping a girl at recess. He says she told him to "trick her" but he misunderstood and thought she said "TRIP her". (He was just being compliant!!!) The jury is still out on whether or not we believe him. Regardless, he lost his hour of Wii on Friday 'cause it's not okay to trip even if you're asked to.

Aside from the occasional incidences like the one above, he seems to be doing pretty well this year. He's starting to actually like reading (not just being read to, which he's always loved.) and he can be very helpful around the house if he thinks it'll earn him a few extra minutes on afore mentioned Wii. (Which he's only allowed to play for an hour on Friday and two hours on Saturday. IF his chores are done.) He's cute. And he makes his own, and Sammy's, lunch every morning. For which I love him an extra lot.

Samuel: Has been caught wearing a collared shirt AND some NON-SWEAT PANTS of his own volition*!!! This is serious progress and cause for much secret rejoicing by his parents. (We can't acknowledge these things lest he stop doing them just to defy us.) He hates everything we ever have for dinner unless it's healthy pizza or healthy pancakes. But he's still cute and he throws fewer tantrums now that we have "special play time" with him everyday. (That's 5 minutes of child/Sammy-directed play--alone with a parent--no interruptions.)
His best friend is "Chipmunk" who lives a few doors down--they MUST play together daily or melt-downs occur. His girlfriend is Caroline (though she hasn't agreed to this) because, as Sam says, "Weo nice to each otho." (Payden is his only other friend in the world and he refuses to like anyone else. I'm sorry to all of you who thought you were his friend. He thinks you look funny, talk funny or smell funny. Sorry again.)

Gabriel: Already loves his baby brother. (Let's hope it lasts!) He likes to yank away all the layers of my highly restrictive and uncomfortable clothing until my belly is exposed and then he sits and talks to his baby bwah-yo...(whom he thinks we should name "baby bwah-yo".)...in baby voice. Which is pretty funny coming from an almost three year old who hasn't quiet mastered speaking himself.
As in: "Hi-Yo Bwah-Yo!! You come out now? You so coot! Tick-o, tick-o!!! Peek-a-boo!!!" ...said in a high, sing-song voice.

Gabey's best friend is Madeleine--who has cut her hair at least three times while under my obviously deficient supervision. They like to play "Doctor" but since most medical treatments are administered below the knee, I let it slide. (The other day Madeleine was giving Gabe his shots with a very large round Nerf gun. That would be quite the injection.) His best-frenemy
is Isaac. They alternate between sharing toys and playing together or fighting over toys and chasing each other.

And THAT is an update on our lives and my justification for blogging! (It's my journal! I'm doing it for the CHILDREN!!!)

It's 9 p.m. I'm being kicked in the throat. I'm going to go have some cold cereal now and then Doug and I will watch "Psych"!

The End.

*I looked this up just to make sure I'm using it right...and I AM!

Guest Posting Elsewhere Today

I wrote an essay for my Carlsbad friend Naomi to post on her new blog: Educated Mormon Women. (It's a great blog--you should add it to your Reader and consider submitting something!)

So if you need to delay washing the dishes for another 10 minutes, and you want to know my excuses for why I'm such a slacker, you can read it HERE.

P.S. While reading up on ADD/ADHD (for the sake of my boys, of course) I learned that many people with ADD enjoy doing things with their hands, like gardening and pottery (two of my favorite things); and also...they (we) like driving fast.

Go figure.

A Few Little Things...

  • Fae had to come home from her mission* to have surgery. (Discovered because of a trip to the hospital for Dengue fever.) She's having a large something-that-shouldn't-be-there removed from somewhere-inside-her on Monday. Details aren't important here, people. The important part is: MAJOR SURGERY! So...Pray please!
  • I just posted a recipe for Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookies on my recipe blog. You should check it out. If you're in to that. (www.gratuitousrecipes.blogspot.com) If you're not, I posted a recipe for Caramel Syrup--which is decidedly unhealthy--right before that one.
  • Discussing the fact that "Veggie Tales" was on T.V. this morning, Sammy said "Yep! God just put it on dere!" ("there" as in, on TV, ...since it's Sunday today.)
  • I'm now 35 weeks pregnant. In answer to your question(s): YES, I AM ready to pop. And as for how I feel??? GREAT (with child), large, cumbersome, ungainly, bloated, bruised, cranky, swollen, tired, slow, stretched, inhumanely battered, clumsy, sore, tired, uncomfortable, tired, uncomfortable, tired, and uncomfortable. And tired. Soooo...with that said...
  • ...who wants to come be my un-paid nanny? We'll provide your food, lodging and travel adventures around Japan. Possibly even a plane ticket. Seriously. Please. I'M BEGGING!!! Our fave Rhode Island babysitter got a boyfriend so I don't think she's coming, darn her!
  • We saw Avatar last night. It was cool enough I suppose. If you're in to that type of thing. For me personally, I get a little restless during multiple bloody, gorey battle scenes--(Just get back to the plot already!) and this movie had lots of bloody and gorey. That's why, for me, the most disturbing part of the whole night was when the movie ended, the lights came up, and a bunch of little kids filed out with their families. Like, REALLY LITTLE KIDS! Five, six, seven, and eight-year-olds! SERIOUSLY PARENTS! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING??? THEY'RE TOO YOUNG!!! IT'S PG-13 AND THIRTEEN IS PROBABLY TOO YOUNG!!! YOUNG=IMPRESSIONABLE! VIOLENCE IN, VIOLENCE OUT!!! GET A FRAKKIN' CLUE!!! ...But that's just my mild-mannered opinion...
  • LAST THING! I read something from one of my blog posts to Doug tonight. He said, "So...why do you think you can only be funny in writing?" And I said "I don't know!" And then I punched him in the crotch**. See what happens when people watch violent movies?!?

G'night!!!

*She and her husband John were serving a "Family History" service mission in the Dominican Republic. Because of Faezer's health, they wont be able to go back and complete all 18 months. But we're all just happy she's getting surgery back in the U.S. (No offense, D.R.)

And FYI: Yes, they felt the earthquake very strongly but were not adversely affected. But they did get to do some volunteer service to help the Haitians including taking volunteers and supplies to the border which were then picked up and delivered on the other side. (They weren't allowed to cross into Haiti.)

**I didn't really. This time. I just threatened. But he laughed so that proves I'm funny in real life too!!!
