A Wicked Good Time

Last Saturday Doug and I actually went on a date!!! This is something we did weekly in San Francisco where babysitters were plentiful and usually lived within rock-throwing distance. Since moving here, however, we've only had a few actual dates without small boys in tow.

So it was very exciting to leave the boys with a sitter (Maxwell's primary teacher) and drive off without a care! (Or any demanding/whiny/tyrannical back seat passengers.)

Our first stop was "The Remington House Inn", a scrumptious restaurant located in a beautiful 200-year-old home. It had fabulous ambiance, (lots of fireplaces!) delicious food, (I got a gigantic steak) and very reasonable prices! Yum!
Next we drove "downtown" to the Providence Performing Arts Center where we had tickets to see "Wicked".
All I can say is, IT.WAS.AWESOME!!! The theater was awesome, the costumes were awesome, and the singing was stupendously awesome. Some might even go so far as to say "wicked awesome"! Even though we had to brave arctic conditions to get to and from the theater, it was well worth it. When we arrived home, it was to find the boys sleeping peacefully in a freshly cleaned house. The babysitter had loaded the dishes, straightened up, and vacuumed! Woah! Talk about the perfect end to a perfect date!
We're going to have to do this "date night" thing a little more often!!!

  1. for some reason we haven't had a date since oct. 25th. and when we ever do again, i have my doubts that mr. dub would accompany me to anything involving stages, costumes and singing. (although having "wicked" in the title might help. he does use that word an awful.) did you have to drug the captain or did he go without narcotics?

  3. Doug surprised me with the tickets...no drugging required. He's actually quite the erudite! Maybe Dave needs to buy his tapes...

Wicked is great! We got to see it in London (and even my husband liked it!). But anyway, so glad you guys got to go out. That restaurant looks like it's out of a movie!

  9. WENDY! I'm TOTALLY jealous! Did you try to convince her to read my blog???

Potty training was put on hold due to a one-week bout of diarrhea. We'll try again next week...

I wanna go to breakfast with Faye! Or even Wendy. I also want to fly the babysitter out here. I love having the cousins come sit for us but we are now on the "Do you want to come baby sit? Uh, not so much" list. Can you believe they are old enough that FRIENDS are more important. Sheesh. The Springs are not very plentiful in the 11 yr old to 15 yr old range of Young Women. Just another reason we never should have moved.

  11. I can't believe your babysitter vacuumed and did your dishes! I wonder if she'd do that every time or if she was just feeling antsy. You get a maid, a sitter and a night out all in one fell swoop!

Sounds like a glorious night - we haven't had a date in over a month and I'm starting to hate the sound of his burps again. Sounds like we need to try out that restaurant. It looks charming!
