Hairy Situation

Do you have sorta darkish/lightish mousy brown hair?  Have you ever thought to yourself, "I've tried everything else.  Why not try going blonde just once?!?"

Did you have to talk yourself into it because you knew better.  Because the voices in your head were saying "Don't color your hair yourself!  Go to a salon...the stuff you buy at the store is crap!!!  It'll never work!"
But then you weighed the $7 box against a $75 salon visit and decided to give it a try...
...and then you ended up with this...
...which isn't exactly blonde.

So you tried one more time...('cause why the heck not?)

...and then you ended up with this:

...which still has no resemblance to the color on the box...

Well?  Have you???

I have!

And I don't recommend it.

P.S.  Contest winners announced soon!

I ended up on your site because you must be friends with one of my friends. Anyway, some advice from one mousy brown/dishwater blond to another. Go to Sally Beauty Supply. There is a color called Light Golden Blonde from Wella that I have used for about 10 years now. You put it with 30 Creme Developer. It cost about $10 but the quality is as good as I received in most salons. I am no beauty but most people don't believe me when I say I color my own and I have been asked for the color quite a few times. It is a blond with gold highlights.
TMI but at least I didn't tell about the time I turned my hair green in the MTC.

sheesh I had more to say and my internet went down.

OK! so NO! I have never ever thought of coloring my hair myself!!!!

It is not just the--- I am "way to clumsy" or the "jinxed" thing either. Which I am jinxed! I have decided!!

It is the "long hair" thing! I just have WAY to much to loose!

Anyway!! I will stop giving you a hard time for not posting a winner, since I didn't post my serious Sunday message until Monday, but THANK YOU for posting something at least... because you were the ONLY person on my Google reader 'long list' who posted today, and Eve is sick so I am forced to stay home and blog all day!!!!!

Not to mention that I told everyone to entertain me this week! LOSERS! That would be my other friends, not you!

Well I am just going to have to lurk at all your lurkers, now that you are famous, to pass the time!

AHHHH! my spell check wanted to change lurkers to the F word-ers!
AHHHHHH!!!! That is soooo bad!!!!

Ah yes, I am ashamed to say that I too once tried to go from adult brown to the blonde of my youth. But alas, I ended up looking like an orange crayon. Not so good. Not sure how friend through friend I found your blog but as I am out number two to one, I find it funny.

I have died my hair myself, but only darker. And even then, it's not worth the $ I saved.

But from the pics, it doesn't look bad. Really.

haven't you learned anything from my mistakes?

Hmmmm...I thought you had JUST been to the salon and had your hair colored!! (No I'm not YELLING!!)

You are so funny! I have never died my hair because when I lived at home my mom said she would kill me & now that I am married hubby says same thing (actually hubby says to go for it but he knows I won't be happy with end results so thus he has in a sense scared me from doing it) MEL :)

So... I just found your site from another friend's site. Sheesh... you are popular.

Word on the making friends blog. (i missed the deadline but hey, here are my two cents anyway! like it or leave it!) Here is my best advice.

Offer your talents willingly. Be open about yourself and the fun things you have done, the music you listen to, whatever, (people like to know you are cool) but also ASK others what they like and listen as they speak. Everyone's favorite subject is themselves.

If you showed up on the first Sunday and said "hey! I am having a moving in party and I make killer cupcakes! I would die if you/your family wasn't there!" People would show up. Sure some people would eat the cupcakes and leave but others will stick around and they now 1)know where you live, 2) know you have skills. These are perfect situations to start friends. People can now stop by just whenever and feel welcome in your home and who doesn't like a friend to cook and bake with? Those are my FAVORITE friends!

or...you know...whatever else skills you have be it numbchuck skills, computer hacking skills, you know... skills! People like friends with skills!

Whatever it be, be open, inviting, and upbeat. It hasn't failed me yet!

you can go ahead and send me a thank you card to the following address:

You are hysterical. I keep pulling up your blog through Lanies, but what the heck I am adding your link to ours. I totally have done that and had the same results, because, alas I have mousey brown hair. Your blog always gives me a good laugh.

I've done it.... more than once. And I'm thinking of doing it again. I just can't quite make myself spend the money for a professional when that $7 box is available.

Linz said...

Yes... I've done that. That's a lesson you only have to learn once.

(But really - I think it looks kinda pretty!

so did you do this yourself, with help, or where you just insane? looks pretty good though. I have heard that dark hair when trying to lighten it, it turns brassy orange. But I like the second time around. Are you going to keep it up? It is expensive at salons, but that is what I do.

Shelly said...

It's pretty! I like it. And you know I'l tell you if I didn't. MY hair, however blonde, is a disaster lately...

And call me when you read this because you NEVER pick up when I try as of late.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!! When will people learn that it's brunettes that have more fun and stop trying to be blonde???? Just kidding, it really doesn't look that bad but I need to see your face with it to make my final decision!
